Operation | Mainz. 458 aircraft, 2 lost. Complete cloud cover necessitated the use of sky-markers using Oboe. Severe damage to the central and eastern districts. 1545 tons of bombs were dropped leading to the destruction of 5670 buildings, including many in the Altstadt and the commercial districts. Around 1200 deaths and the demographic would suggest that most of the children had been evacuated. |
