Roderick was born in Toronto on 1 August 1924. His father was born in Motherwell, Scotland and worked as a Customs Clerk and his mother was born in Toronto. He had one sister, Elizabeth Marie. They had lived in Fairlawn Avenue and Ranleigh Avenue. The schools Roderick attended were: St. John Wanless 1929-1938 (General) and Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute, 1938-1942 (Matric). From November 1941-1942, Roderick was a Private in the 2nd Batn. 48th Highlanders (RT) in Toronto. He had worked as Rodman of a Surveyor. His hobby was stamp collecting and sports were hockey, rugby and baseball. |
Roderick enlisted on 17 September 1942 and after training, embarked from New York for the U.K. on 3 August 1943. He arrived at 3PRC on 12 August 1943, then went through 12 OTU 24 August 1943, 1651 CU 30 September 1943, 623 Sqn 12 November 1943, and 149 Squadron 6 December 1943. |
