Dit monument is opgericht a.d. 5-5-2000 ter nagedachtenis aan de bemanning van een 4-motorige Short Stirling BK722 van 218 Sqn van de Britse Royal Air Force (R.A.F). Het toestel stortte hier brandend neer in de nacht van 22 Juni 1943 en had als doel de stad Krefeld in Duitsland.
Translation "This monument was erected a.d. 5-5-2000 in memory of the crew of a 4-engine Short Stirling BK722 of 218 Sqn of the British Royal Air Force (RAF). The plane crashed here burning on the night of June 22, 1943 and had as its target the city of Krefeld in Germany." |

A large fire in the centre of Krefeld raged unchecked for many hours. Over 5500 houses destroyed, 1056 people killed and 72000 bombed out of their homes. |
