Miscellaneous Information
Irvin was born on 17 April 1922 at Shawville, Québec. His father was a farmer and both he and his mother were born at Shawville , Pontiac, Québec. He had one brother, Keith Ellis. The schools he attended were Clarendon No. 5 1929-1936 and then Shawville High School 1936-1939. Irvin was then farming with his father between 1939-1942, as well as taking a bookkeeping/typing course during 1941 at Gowling Business College. The sports he took part in were softball, hockey, football and skiing. He enlisted on 6 August. 1942. |
After initial training he was then posted to the U.K., embarking from Halifax on 22 Oct 1943. He was at 3 PRC (RCAF) on 31 October 1943, 19 OTU 16 November 1943, 41 Base 10 April 1944 and 1652 CU 19 June 1944. Sadly on 13 August 1944 Irvin was to lose his life. |

Operation | Russelsheim to bomb the Opel motor factory, with normal PFF marking (unlike the concurrent Braunschweig raid). 297 aircraft, 20 losses (6.7%). Only slight damage was inflicted with may of the bombs falling in open countryside. |
Reason for Loss | Crashed NE of Ham, Germany and initially interred there in a communal grave. An American unit moved them to St. Avold US Military Cemetery after the end of hostilities but they were later moved to Choloy (1948). |
