Miscellaneous Information
Fred was born on 14 January 1912 at Victoria County, Ontario, the son of Charles J Brown and Maria Jane Brown (Millman). Both parents were born in Ontario and both now deceased. His father had been a farmer. He had a married sister. The schools he attended were Seagrove Public 1918-1921 (entrance), Keele Street Public 1921-1925 and he was a graduate of Humberside Collegiate Institute 1925-1930 (teachers course). Sport interests were tennis, rowing and swimming and his hobby, target and duck shooting. From 1930-1937 Fred worked at Lablaw Groceteria, Toronto as a Junior buyer and then as a Salesman at O’Cedar of Canada from 1938 onwards. He enlisted on 3 July 1940. |
After training Fred embarked from Canada for the U.K. and arrived at 3 PRC. He went on to 13 OTU 7 July 1941 and on to 114 Squadron on 1 September 1941. It was from there that Fred was sadly to lose his life in a flying accident whilst on a practice bombing run in Norfolk, on 22 September 1941. |
