Op 28 juli 1942 om 23.08 ur steeg de Wellington Mk. III - Z1624 - KO-D als onderdeel van het 115de squadron van de Royal Air Force (RAF) op van luchtmachtbasis Marham, noordoösteliik van Cambridge. Doe was het make van een bombardementsvlucht naar havens in Hamburg. Na het uitvoeren van de missie werd de bommenwerper een paar keer aangevallen door Duitse jachtvliegtuigen.
Translation "On 28 July 1942, Wellington Z1624 of 115 Sqn RAF, on a mission to Hamburg was shot down by a German nightfighter and crashed into the Ijsselmeer. The crew baled out but two parachutes were seen to be on fire and the men were killed." |
