Miscellaneous Information
Kenneth was born in London, England on 30 August 1923. His parents were both born in England. His father, who was born in London, was a Flight Lieutenant in the RAF at North Front, Gibraltar and his mother who was born in Hull, Yorkshire, was living in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He grew up in England where he spent all his school years and where he achieved High School Entrance, Junior and Senior Matric. He went to Rosendale Road School 1927-1934, Mundella school Nottingham 1934-1935 and Westminster City School, London 1935-1939. His sport interest were skiing, swimming, skating and cycling. His hobby photography, engine mechanics, motor cycle racing and model aeroplanes. Kenneth had a married sister Beryl Shute and a brother, Sgt. Peter Brayne who was in the RAF. His father later became a Squadron Leader in Northern Ireland at RAF Longkesh. When Kenneth travelled to Canada he lived in Toronto where he spent about two years as a salesman with the Canadian Fire Corporation before enlisting on 12 March 1942.. |
He arrived at 3PRC 29 April 1943, 3(0) AFU. 24 August 1943, 82 OTU 28 September 1943, 61 Base 26 January 1944, 1659 CU, 12 Feb 1944 and 429 Squadron 17 February 1944. Sadly this young man who left his family back home in England to join the RCAF was to lose his life on 13 August 1944, just before his 21st birthday. |

Operation | Braunschweig. 379 aircraft, 27 losses (7.1%). This was an experimental raid with no PFF marking to determine how accurate an H2S only raid could be. The raid was not a success and bombing was very scattered. The local report classifies it as a heavy raid nonetheless. |
