Miscellaneous Information
Roy was born at Selkirk, Manitoba on 20 March 1923. His father was born in Walsingham Centre, Ontario and his mother born in Selkirk. He had two sisters Evelyn Joyce and Dorothy Grace. He attended the Central School 1929-1937 (General) and then the Devonshire school 1937-1940 (Matric grade 11). His sporting interests were curling, hockey, swimming, tennis and baseball among others. Roy worked as a Finisher at Manitoba Rolling Mills (steel) in Selkirk between 1940-1941 before enlisting. |
He enlisted on 16 October1941 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Canada on 28 October 1942, arriving at 3 PRC on 6 November 1942 and then 19 (P) AFU 16 November 1942, 22 OTU 5 January 1943, 420 Squadron on 25 March 1943. Just four days later Roy, sadly lost his life. |
