James was born at Toronto on 19 November 1921. His father was born in England and his mother in Scotland. His father is a Captain in the Royal Regiment of Canada at Stanley Barracks, Toronto. James had two sisters, Frances and Nora. He has a long list of schools which cover the years 1926 -1932: Queen Victoria, Long Beach, Balmy Beach, Earl Haig and Blake Public schools (Academic). Then the University of Toronto Schools 1933-1938. He worked as a messenger boy and drug store clerk for A. Tyndall of Toronto during the summers of 1935-1937. He was then a junior clerk at Shell Oil Co.1938 and later as an Insurance clerk at Manufacturers Life Ins. Co. until enlistment on 25 February 1941. |
After enlistment and initial training, he was sent to the U.K. and disembarked there on 18 December 1942 . He was at 10 OTU on 6 April 1943, 1652 CU on 28 June 1943 and 138 Squadron on 28 July 1943. It was from there that James was sadly to lose his life on 16 September 1943. |
