Evan was born at Cochrane, Ontario on 9 August 1921. His father, a farmer, was born in Malgrave, Quebec and his mother in Montreal. He had a brother Nelson Milton and two sisters, one was married but no name shown and the other was Joyce. He attended Nahma School at Cochrane 1932-1935 and then at Timmins, 1941-1942 (Commercial). Between 1935 and 1939 he was working with his father (farming and sawmill), before returning to school at Timmins. Evan spent a little time on sport, boxing and weightlifting and his hobby was photography. He worked 1939-1941 at Pamour Mine, Ontario as a machine Helper and Mucker, then at Hollinger Mine, Timmings as a Mucker between 1941-1942. |
Evan enlisted on 20 July 1942 at Toronto and after his initial training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from New York on 4 May 1943 and arriving at 3 PRC on 12 May he then continued to 19 OTU 25 May 1943, 1663 CU 1 August 1943 and then 76 Squadron on 17 September 1943. It was from 76 Squadron that Evan sadly lost his life on 26 November 1943. |
