Miscellaneous Information
Douglas was born at Three Rivers, Quebec on 4 May 1921. His father, born in Montreal, was a clerk for Consolidated Paper Company and his mother was born in Bridport, Dorset, England. He had brothers Bruce, Wallace, Donald, Kenneth and Maurice and one sister, Joyce. The schools Douglas attended were Three Rivers High, 1925-1932, Willingdon School 1932-1934 and West Hill High 1934-1938 (all in Montreal). He was interested in a wide variety of sports including, basketball, volleyball, hockey, swimming and weightlifting. During 1938 Douglas took on a couple of part-time jobs with Anti Costi Shipping Company. They were a Shed checker and a Ship Steward. He then worked for the Dominion Rubber Company as a Payroll clerk, 1938-1941, after which he enlisted. |
After enlisting on 14 April 1941 and early training Douglas arrived in the U.K. on 5 November 1942. He was then at 4 AOS 28 December 1942, 23 OTU 8 March 1943, 428 Sqn 27 May 1943, and 432 Squadron 26 June 1943. Douglas was to lose his life from 432 Squadron on 12 May 1944. |
