Op 30 juni 1942 stort hier aan de Dwarsvaartweg een Canadese Halifax-bommenwerper in een enorme vuurzee neer. De acht inzittenden, it vier verschillende landen, komen daarbij om het leven. Hun laatste rustplaats vinden ze op de begraafplaats in Noordwolde
