Miscellaneous Information
Byron was born at Ottawa, Ontario on 9 November 1915. Both parents were born in Ottawa and his father died in 1937. He had been a CPR employee. He had a brother Maurice Peter Becker who had sadly died in 1937 and a sister who had died in 1922. He attended St. Patrick’s School in Ottawa 1922-1929 (grade 8) and again in 1929-1935 grade (11). Between 1935- 1938 he attained a B.A Degree. He also took an International Correspondence Course, 1941-1942 in Cost Accounting. Byron worked as a Bookkeeper/ Secretary in a temporary position in 1938, followed by clerk/bookkeeper at Ottawa Credit Exchange, 1938-1939. He then went to Munitions and Supply at Ottawa as an accountant and follow up clerk, 1939-1942. He then enlisted on 16 September 1942. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 25 March 1944. He arrived at 3PRC on 3 April 1944, 2(0) AFU 25 April 1944, 82 OTU 6 June 1944, 86 OTU 21 June 1944 and 61 Base on 14 August 1944. Very sadly Byron was to lose his life on 15 October 1944 from 1664 HCU. |
