Miscellaneous Information
Survived the incident but was shot by Karl Bertram, a German police sergeant, as he took him to the mayor's office but on the way shot him in the back twice. He was tried for war crimes after the end of the war but in his defence said that the prisoner was trying to escape and that he had intended to shoot him in the legs although it was dark. He was acquitted. |
