Miscellaneous Information
Enlisted September 1938. Promoted to Pilot Officer (on probation) 28 August 1939 Plt Off. On 13 Octover 1939 he was posted to 76 Sqn for training. On 6 December 1939, detached from 76 Sqn to SGQ Finningley. Posted to 50 Sqn on 7 December 1939. Posted to School of Air Navigation short course, St. Athan on 16 December 1939. On 15 January 1940 he was involved in the crash of Avro Anson Mk I K8819. He was badly injured bailing out and spent a month in hospital. He was dragged out of the aircraft as his canopy opened prematurely and he hit the tailplane, suffering a compound fracture of his left humerus. On 30 August he was posted to 50 Sqn attached from No.1 Depot, Uxbridge. On 20 September he ceased to be attached to 50 Sqn (as Plt Off). On 3 September 1940, promoted to Flying Officer.
