Miscellaneous Information
Dennis was born on 13 September 1919 in Demaine, Saskatchewan. His father was a grain buyer born in USA where he lived in Detroit and his mother was born in London, England and later lived in Bellingham, Washington with three of her sons. His four brothers were, Robert Lloyd, Glen Chester, Albert Edward and Howard Wesley and an Iris Annette Bailey had died 8 May 1932. Robert Lloyd was on HMCS Cornwallis (R.C.N.VR.) Dennis attended schools at Demaine, Sask 1925-1934, (Grade ten) and Wilkie High, Sask. 1934-1936 (Grade 12). He then took a business course at Commercial, Wilkie, 1936-1937. He worked as a stenographer for J.R. MacDonald, Wilkie, 1937-1938 and then as a stenographer and accountant for W.C. Wells, 1938-1941. His sport interests were tennis, golf, curling, softball and baseball. |
Dennis enlisted on 31 July 1941 and after basic training embarked for the U.K. on 13 April 1943, arriving on 29 April. He then went through 6 (0) AFU 17 August 1943, 82 OTU 14 September, 61 Base 31 December 1943, 1664 CU 18 January 1944 followed by 432 Squadron on 21 February 1944. He was killed one month later. |
Dennis's father was a naturalised Canadian (previously American) and his mother was American, his enlistment papers state that he was himself a Canadian citizen. |

Operation | Frankfurt. 816 aircraft, 33 losses (4.0%). An indirect route, in addition to a diversionary raid on Kiel kept fighters away for some time and in fact the German controller believed that Frankfurt was the target. Marking and bombing were accurate and Frankfurt was again badly damaged right across the city. 948 deaths and 346 seriously injured. Some 120000 people were bombed out of their homes. |
