Miscellaneous Information
As a student, Allen worked as a tractor operator in the summer of 1926 to 1940 at Macdonald College, Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec where the whole family lived. He was employed by a Professor of the college and his father Leland was Foreman of the Provincial Seed Farm. Between the years 1938-39 and 1939-40 Allen took a Course at the college where he attained his Diploma (see NoK entry). |
He enlisted on 13 September 1940 and after the initial training courses embarked from Canada on 15 August 1941 for the U.K. After 3 PRC, he went to No 1 Signals school then on to 12 OTU, 1651 Conversion Unit and 218 Squadron on 16 June 1942. |
Allen enjoyed many sports including hockey, soft ball, basketball, swimming, tennis, rugby and soccer and his hobby was carpentry. |
