Miscellaneous Information
William was born in London, Ontario on 31 March 1921. His father was born in Lancashire, England and his mother (who pre-deceased William) in London, Ontario. HIs father worked as a civil servant and was employed by Westminster Hospital, London, Ontario. William had one sister, Marjorie and they lived at 72, Connaught Street, London, Ontario. He attended Wortley Road Public School between 1927-1934 (Entrance), London High School 1934-1939 (Senior Matric) and then was at Ontario Hospital, Hamilton 1941-1942, (nursing), when he was called up to the army. He was in the Canadian Postal Corps between 21 February 1942 and 30 June 1942 where he worked as a Postal Clerk. |
He enlisted on 1 July 1942 and after training was sent to the U.K. He embarked from New York on 8 October 1943 arriving at 3 PRC Bournemouth on 17 October 1943, 1 (0)AFU 28 December 1943, 24 OTU on 22 February 1944 and 61 Base on 12 May 1944. He was killed almost a month later. |
He enjoyed swimming, soccer, skating and baseball. |
