Miscellaneous Information
Francis was born on 26 August 1921 at Leeds and resided at 45 Hastings Road, Stoke, Coventry. His father was F. D. Ashcroft, a wireless engineer. Francis enlisted in July 1941, two years after leaving Bablake School, which he attended from 1933 to 1939, during which time he had been a School Official as a sub prefect. Notes made in 'The Wheatleyan' show in 1938 he scored 12 runs on July 18th against T. Venns XI and his Rugby Football Full Back capabilities were commented on as "Ashcroft would do well to improve his positioning and kicking as well as his speed so as to make himself more favoured in this position". |
