Miscellaneous Information
James was born at Regina, Saskatchewan on 13 March 1919. His father was a former Military Major in the army, now working in the Counsell of Department of Justice, and was born in Belleville, Ontario and his mother was born in Brampton, Ontario. The schools he attended were Mutchmor and Hopewell, 1926-1932 (Entrance), Glebe Collegiate 1933-1938 (Matric), and Queen’s University 1937 (Commerce). James worked at International Nickel Company, at Sudbury, Ontario for six months in 1938 before going to Queens. His sport interests were rugby, hockey, golf and baseball. James had been given permission to marry Shirley Ann Pratt in January 1941 but this sadly, never took place. This appears to be because he was in hospital on several occasions around that time. |
He enlisted on 19 June 1940 and after training embarked for the U.K. from Halifax on 7 March 1941. He arrived at 3 PRC on 19 March 1941, then to 13 OTU 29 March 1941, 19 OTU 24 May 1941, 58 Sqn 22 July 1941 and 35 Squadron 23 July 1941 from where he sadly lost his life less than a month later. |
