Miscellaneous Information
Born on 4 April 1920 in Loverna, Saskatchewan. His father was a farm owner, now deceased, and his mother became Bertha Copland after re-marriage. He was one of six children with three sisters, Clara Agnes, Mary Anne, and Grace Elizabeth, and two brothers, Earl Benjamin and Howard George. Howard was overseas with the Canadian Army. He went to school in Loverna, Saskatchewan between 1926- and 1938 where he reached grade X1. He worked for three years on their home farm and also spent two months Youth Training in Regina. He worked as a tractor operator between 1936-1938 and then as a mechanic 1938- 1941, until he enlisted. |
He enlisted on 28 August 1941 at Regina, Saskatchewan and after training embarked for the U.K. He arrived at 3 PRC on 18 April 1943 was at 1664 on 7 October 1943, 1659 CU, 434 Sqn on 29 November 1943 and 405 Squadron on 26 March 1944. Edward was to lose his life a month later on 23 April 1944, leaving behind his young wife and eight month old son. |
