He was born on 9 July 1922 and lived at 52 Castleland Street, Barry, with his parents Ada and Arthur, sister Mary, grandmother Lou and grandfather Walter. Gordon attended this school which was called Holton Road School for Boys. He left school at the age of 14 to become a Drapers’ Assistant in a shop called John Jones in Barry. Gordon volunteered for the RAF in 1941 and was selected to join 617 Sqn on 25 March 1943. |
