Miscellaneous Information
Born on 25 January 1924 in Melville, Saskatchewan. His father was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan. and was a part time labourer and his mother was born in Manitoba. He had two sisters, Arline and Shirley and three brothers: J. W. Wotherspoon was in the RCAF R/107601 L.A.C. Private Wotherspoon J.L. was overseas. H.18415, and younger brother Stanley was only six years old. He attended Langenburg School 1930-1938 where he attained Grade 8 and then graduated from Langenburg High School, 1938-1942 reaching grade 12. The sports he was involved in were hockey, tennis and softball and as a hobby he enjoyed building models. Albert had no work experience as he enlisted on 19 October 1942. |
After his early training he embarked from Halifax on 25 May 1944 and arrived at 3 PRC in the U.K. on 3 June 1944. He was at 18 OTU 4 July 1944, 11 Base 21 September 1944, reaching 103 Squadron on 25 November 1944. |
His brother John Wilfred Wotherspoon had originally enlisted in RCAF in WW2 on 5 June 1941. He died 30 November 1958, one of three RCAF airmen killed, when their helicopter crashed into Lake Winnipeg. He had previous Second World War Service in Canada and overseas and was Honourably Discharged in 1945. He re-enlisted in 1948 and served until his death.
