Miscellaneous Information
William was born at Toronto on 27 August 1920. His parents were both born in Ontario, his mother in Watertown and his father in Toronto where he worked as a salesman. He had one sister named Velva. William attended Lambton Mills school , 1926-1934 (general), followed by Etobicoke, 1934-1937, (Matric). His sporting interest was baseball but it was mainly golf that he enjoyed. Mechanics were his hobby. He also worked In the Boy Scouts for three years. Between 1937-1939 he worked as a Ledger Keeper for the Canadian Bank of Commerce and then for the Goodyear Rubber Company where he worked in Sales and clerical 1939-1941 until enlisting on 17 December 1941. |
After initial training William embarked for the U.K., arriving here in April 1943. He was at 3PRC on 15 June 1943, 5 AOS. 10 August 1943, 17 OTU 7 September 1943, 51 Base, 15 December 1943 and 57 Squadron on 5 April 1944. Sadly, William was to lose his life from there the following month on 22 May 1944. |
