Miscellaneous Information
Anecote from Irene: "[My mother] would go to her parents’ house because they had a telephone, so [Percy] would ring her whenever he could. That evening in July was very hot, she was waiting for a call which didn’t come past the expected time, so she went out for a walk. The call came while she was out and my grandfather answered. My Dad said “We are going on a raid now and won’t be coming back”. My grandfather replied “Don’t say that!” However he was right, he didn’t come back, I guess he had a gut feeling or knew the risks they were taking to defeat the enemy". |
