Reason for Loss | Aircraft took off from Elsham Wolds at 23.43 hrs detailed to attack targets in Aachen. Aircraft was hit by Flak that was rail mounted. One wing caught fire and soon after the aircraft blew up over Eggewaartskapelle (West-Vlaanderen), 6km South East of Veurne. F/O Jones lies in Coxyde Military Cemetery, having been washed ashore near Koksijde, thus suggesting that the aircraft must have flown over the sea after being hit, and turned back inland. |
