Miscellaneous Information
William was born on 28 September 1915 at a small farm at Blackadder Mount, near Edrom, Berwickshire, Scotland. His father was born in Blackadder and his mother in Berwickshire. He had one brother, Anthony and five sisters. He attended Cecil Rhodes School Winnipeg 1921-1932 (general) and Daniel McIntyre Winnipeg 1937-1939 (grade 11). Between 1935-1937 he was at St. John’s Technical College Winnipeg where he studied Diesel engines, forging, welding etc. His sport interests were golf and football and he enjoyed light machine work and model making. William worked at a variety of places as a mechanic for five years and then two years as a sheet metal worker for Service Station Equipment Ltd. when he then enlisted on 25 May 1942. |
After initial training he embarked from Halifax on 26 August 1943 and arrived at 3PRC in the U.K. on 2 September 1943. He then went to 6(0)AFU on 16 November 1943, 16 OTU 11 January 1944, 51 Base 12 April 1944 and 207 Squadron on 15 July 1944. William sadly lost his life on 15 October 1944. |
