Miscellaneous Information
His father’s parents were from England, his mother’s from the United States of America. Born in Rosario (Santa Fé province, Argentina), he was sent to boarding-schools in Buenos Aires (including Educated at St George's College, Quilmes), then England. However, by the time he finished secondary school, his father’s ranching businesses were not doing well, which was probably decisive in persuading Percy to pursue flying as a career. He left Argentina at the age of 13 and never returned. |
Variously known as Willy or Willie, occasionally Pip. He was an accomplished artist - in particular in the medium of pen and ink drawings. |
His brother James (Jim) was also lost while on the strength of Bomber Command- see https://losses.internationalbcc.co.uk/loss/229638/ |
