| Memorial Text | At 21:30 on the evening of 16 May 1943, Avro Lancaster ED934 took off from RAF Scampton for a mission to attack the German Sorpe Dam (OPERATION CHASTISE). The Avro Lancaster was hit by German anti-aircraft fire near Texel and crashed about 18 miles west of Harlingen into the Waddenzee. All seven crew members lost their lives. |
