Miscellaneous Information
John was born on 29 February 1920 in Hanover, Ontario. His father was born in Schwartzberg, Bohemia, Czechoslovakia and worked as a carpenter and his mother was born in Karlsruhe, Germany. He had a brother Joseph Peter, RAFTC, Dorval, Quebec (he served in Merchant Marines and Ferry Command delivering aircraft and equipment across the Atlantic), and a brother George. He also had a sisters Salome and Gertrude and SIster Mary Salome of Galt, Ontario. John went to Hanover Separate School, Ontario, 1926-1935 (General course, High School Entrance). His sport interests were baseball, hockey and tennis. He carried out a variety of work including a Clerk with Sandlos, Hanover, July-September 1935, general work for H.Bender, 1935-1939, a helper at Arno Diamond and Drilling Mine, Timmins, and various other Mines work until 1940. He enlisted on 1 December 1941. |
After initial training embarked for the U.K. on 28 October 1942. He arrived at 3 PRC on 6 November 1942, 19 OTU on 7 December 1942, 1654 CU 16 March 1943, and 49 Squadron 21 April 1943. John sadly lost his life on 18 August 1943, the crew's 13th Operation. |
