To de nacht van 15.06.1943 om 1.11 ur, stortte ongeveer 50 meter achter deze plaats de Lancaster ED-973 van het 100 ste squadron neer nadat het door en Duits jachtvliegtuig was aangeschoten. Drie uur eerder was her opgestegen van de Engelse Basis Waltham bij Grimsby in Lincolnshire, doel van de missie was de Duitse stad Oberhausen. De zevenkoppige bemanning kwam hierbij om
