Miscellaneous Information
Lawrence was born at Lethbridge, Alberta on 25 July 1923. His father, who was the owner of an Ice company, was born in Kingston, Ontario and his mother was born in Scotland. He had a married sister, Christina and three brothers, Donald Edward, David Conn, and Charles Leslie. Charles lived in Halifax and was in the Navy Shore Patrol. Lawrence went to Central School, Lethbridge 1929-1937 (Grade 8) followed by Lethbridge Collegiate 1937-1941 (Grades 9-12) Commercial. His sporting interests were basketball, hockey, softball and skating. Lawrence worked for J. Crighton, a butcher in Lethbridge, doing deliveries after school and in the school holidays. Between 1941-1942 he worked for his father delivering ice. |
On 14 November 1942, he enlisted and after training embarked from Halifax on 22 October 1943 for the U.K. He arrived at 3 RCAF(PRC) on 31 October 1943, then went on to 16 OTU 16 November 1943, 51 Base 29 February 1944 and 106 Squadron on 30 May 1944. |
