Miscellaneous Information
Harry was born at Fort Erie, Ontario on 29 January 1924. His father, who was deceased by the time of Harry's enlistment, was born at Fort Erie, Ontario and had worked as a Mason and his mother was born at Ridgeway, Ontario. He had sisters Mrs. Violet Bremner, Thelma and a half sister Betty Hardison. The schools he attended were Fort Erie Public between 1930-1939 (Academic) followed by Fort Erie High, 1939-1941 (Commercial). His sport interests were rugby, baseball and basketball. Harry took on several jobs during 1941. He tried working as an office clerk for Fleet Aircraft, Fort Erie, 1941-1941 which he didn’t enjoy and then as an Insulator for War Time Housing. This was only for a short time until the job finished. He then worked as a Harness machine operator for Irwin Airchute of Fort Erie from 1941 until enlisting on 2 April 1943. |
After his initial training Harry was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 5 March 1944 arriving at 3PRC on 15 March 1944. He was at 83 OTU on 11 April 1944, 11 Base 3 July 1944, 576 Sqn. 31 August 1944 and 166 Squadron on 15 October 1944. Sadly on 4 December 1944, Harry was to lose his life. |
