Miscellaneous Information
Dambuster John Thrasher survived the early return of the Geoffrey Rice crew in AJ-H after their Upkeep was ripped from the aircraft on the outward leg to the Dams. He crewed up with Rice at 19 OTU RAF KInloss in July 1942, before moving on to 1660 Heavy Conversion Unit at RAF Swinderby in October 1942. The crew completed nine Ops with 57 Squadron, at Scampton, before they were posted to the new 'special duty' Squadron at the same base which became 617 Squadron. Geoffrey Rice was the only survivor of the loss of DV398 as he was blown out of the aircraft. |
