Miscellaneous Information
Edmond was born at Toronto, Ontario on 21 May 1914. His father was born in Belgium and his mother In Toronto. Following the death of his father, his mother re-married Mark McLeod Tew and Edmund took on his surname. He and his family moved to Hamilton in 1929, where his father had taken employment as a financial manager at Hery Birks and Son, jewellers. It is understood that the family kived over the shop, which had a distrinctive outdoor clock. Edmond attended Dundas Public School 1919-1927 then Hillfield and Westdale Collegiate 1927-1932, followed by McMaster University 1932-1935 (B.A. degree). He also went to Osgoode Hall Law School, 1935-1939. He was a Barrister and Solicitor and worked for himself. Edmond enjoyed playing the piano and horse riding, also tennis, rugby, hockey and volleyball ball. He was a talented horseman and a tennis champion. |
On 28 May 1941 he enlisted and after training was posted to the U.K. He departed from Halifax on 30 August 1942. He is then shown as arriving at 3 PRC on 2 October 1942 and 22 OTU on 27 October 1942. Very sadly Edmond was then to lose his life in a training night flying accident on 29 January 1943. |
