Miscellaneous Information
Robert was born on 25 October 1915 at Humboldt, Saskatchewan. His father was born at Ailsa Craig, Ontario and was a Newspaper Proprietor and his mother was born at Napanee, Ontario. She was a trained opera singer and pianist. He had an older brother Walter and a younger sister Muriel. The schools he attended were Humboldt Public 1920-1925, Humboldt High school and Central Collegiate Institute 1929-1935. He also attended McMaster university between 1933-1934. Between 1935-1936 Robert was working as a clerk in a Drugstore. Between 1937 and 1938 he opened his own drugstore and was shown as the owner 1938-1940. His hobby was photography and sport interests were skating, skiing, tennis, and golf. Robert married Marvel Joyce Baker on 26 December 1940 and they later had a son, Robert, whom he was sadly never to see. |
He enlisted on 12 September 1940. He arrived in UK on 20 April 1941 and went on to 23 OTU 26 April 1941 and 103 Squadron on 22 June 1941. |
