Miscellaneous Information
Leonard was born in Nassagaweya Township, Ontario, on 28 December 1921. His father was a farmer, also born in Nassagaweya, his mother was born in Arkell, Ontario. The schools which Leonard attended were SS #4, Nassagaweya between 1927 - 1935 (High school Entrance), followed by Guelph Collegiate 1935-1940 (Junior Matric). Because he was still attending school up until he enlisted, Leonard had no formal job but had worked on three different farms during the school holidays between 1937- 1939. |
Enlisting in Hamilton on 18 October 1940, he underwent initial training before embarking to the U.K. Leonard left Halifax on 10 August 1941 arriving in England on 28 August and at 3 PRC on 13 September 1941. He was at 22 OTU on 30 September 1941, eventually reaching 103 Squadron on 7 May 1942. He lost his life just 12 days later. |
Leonard played rugby, baseball, hockey and basketball and his hobby was stamp collecting. |
