Reason for Loss | At 1500 hrs the aircraft was seen over Hopton making towards the sea. No trace of the aircraft was found despite an extensive search. Pilot P/O Couper RAAF was found washed ashore on Vejers Beach on 15/2 and was laid to rest in Fovrfelt cemetery, Esbjerg on 18th February 1943, whilst P/O Pickles was found on 20th December in the sea 7 miles south east of Lowestoft and was laid to rest in Batley cemetery, Yorkshire, England. The bodies of the remaining crew were never found and they are therefore commemorated on the Runnymede memorial. |
