| Reason for Aircraft Loss | Pilot t/o with wireless operator for night circuit practice. At 2120, while banking, the plane flew into a lightning pole, crashed onto the flare path and burst into flames. Both crew members managed to scramble clear but the seven airmen on flare path duty (including AC2 J B Tait) were not so fortunate. All were rushed to RAF hospital Ely but none survived their injuries. |
