Miscellaneous Information
John was born at Winnipeg, Nova Scotia on 26 May 1922. His father was born in Belfast, Ireland, and worked as a Merchant and his mother was born in Winnipeg. The schools he attended were Prince Edward, 1934-1935 followed by East Kildonan Collegiate, Manitoba, 1939-1940. He had worked in a newsagency as a sub-manager and newsagent. John enjoyed dancing and roller skating. |
On 20 January 1942 he enlisted. After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from New York on 5 January 1943, arriving at 3 PRC on 13 January. He then continued to 6 AOS 1 June 1943, 30 OTU 4 July 1943, 1656 CU 12 October 1943, 1662 CU 8 February 1944, and 460 Squadron 19 February 1944. Sadly John was to lose his life on 25 February 1944. |
