Miscellaneous Information
Born in Auburn, New York on 17 January 1925. His father worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway (C.P.R) as a Railway Yardman. James attended Schreiber Public School between 1930 and 1935 then Elm Street Public school 1935 to 1938. He also went to the Sudbury Mining and Technical School between 1938 and 1942 and worked with the Copper Cliff Highlanders Cadet Corps at Copper Cliff as a Senior Lieutenant up to 1942. He left there to join the R.C.A.F. During this time he had worked at CPR Schreiber, Ontario as a groundman on a line gang and also at the International Nickel Company Ltd of Canada as a boilermaker apprentice. |
Enlisted on 12 November 1942 and after several months' training, embarked from Halifax on 13 Sept 1943, arriving U.K. 19 Sept 1943. He went through 3PRC, 14 OTU,1661 Conversion Unit until 207 Squadron in January 1944. |
James’s hobby was building model aeroplanes and the sports he enjoyed included speed skating and hockey. |
