Miscellaneous Information
Albert was born on 11 August 1920 at Wynot Saskatchewan, on a farm near Lestock. He was the son of Albert Oliver Snook, a farmer, and Doris Emma Snook (Harris) of Wynot. His father was born at Kingston, Ontario and his mother at Alexandria, Egypt. He had two living brothers, William Herman and Glen Townsend who were both on active service with the R.C.N.V.R. Two more brothers had sadly died: Lloyd Campbell in 1935 and Eric Lawson in 1936. The schools he attended were Wesmore 1928-1935 (Grade X), Balfour Technical school Regina (Motor mechanics), Reliance Business College, Saskatchewan 1939 (accounting). His sporting interests were hockey, boxing, skating, and softball. Albert worked at home on the farm between 1935-1938. He then worked as a clerk at Robert Simpson Co. Retail and Mail Order merchants in Regina, between 1938-1941 until enlisting. |
After enlisting on 23 March 1941 and early training, Albert embarked from Canada on 3 February 1943 for the U.K. and arrived at 3PRC on 14 February 1943. He then went on to 2 (0) AFU 27 April 1943, 81 OTU 25 May 1943, 1662 CU 4 August 1943 and 625 Squadron on 15 0ctober 1943. Sadly Albert was to lose his life only five days later, on 20 October 1943. |
