Miscellaneous Information
Royal was born at Toronto, Ontario on 11 November 1923. His father, a Sergeant in Western Air Command Headquarters at Camp Borden, was born in Rose Blanche, Newfoundland and his mother in Leicestershire, England. He had sisters Barbara and Joy, both of whom were in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. He attended Victoria School 1930-1939 (general) and Barrie Collegiate 1939-1940 (Academics). He also took night classes at Barrie Business College for shorthand and typing during 1941. He worked at RCAF Camp Borden as a messenger from July 1940-June 1941. Royal enjoyed badminton, basketball, baseball, high and parallel bars, skating and shooting. On 8 December 1941 he enlisted. |
He had apparently completed nearly half his first tour when he suffered from frostbite on an operation in November 1943 and was unable to return to duty until March 1944. Royal sadly list his life on 10 May 1944. |
