Reason for Loss | Took off from Kinloss on "Lookie III", a searchlight cooperation exercise in the area of Tyneside. Although officially "lost without trace", it is very much suspected that the Whitley fell victim to an Allied night fighter which, later, claimed to have shot down an enemy aircraft in the vicinity where it was known the bomber was operating. |
