Robert was born on 27 May 1925 at North Battleford, Saskatchewan, the son of Robert Shilliday and Ethel Shilliday (Mountain) of Winnipeg. His father was born In Belfast, Northern Ireland and his mother in Cavalier, North Dakota, USA. His father worked as a Locomotive engineer for C.N.R. The schools he attended in Winnipeg were John N King and General Wolfe, 1932-1942 (grades 1-9 ) followed by Gordon Bell High, 1942-1943. During the school holidays he worked for CNR. His sport interests were, hockey, basketball, and skiing and his hobby was model aircraft building. |
Robert enlisted on 6 August 1943 and after training embarked from Halifax on 29 April 1944. He arrived in the U.K. at 3 (RCAF)PRC on 8 May 1944, 18 OTU 6 June 1944 and 153 Squadron 29 October 1944. Very sadly Robert lost his life on 11 January 1945 |
