Miscellaneous Information
Joseph was born at St. Bruno, Québec on 3 June 1925. His mother had sadly died some years ealier and had been born at St.Bruno, Quebec, whereas his father was born at Lake Megantique, Quebec. He had three brothers, Claude, Marcel and Jean Louis. He also had five young half siblings. The schools he attended were: Jardin de L’Enfance 1931-1932, St. Joseph, Lac Megantique, 1932-1933, St.Urbain, Montreal 1933-1936, St. Christstome Chateauguay, 1936-1939, St. Marie , Sudbury, Ont. 1939-1940, St. Louis de Gonzague, Sudbury 1940-1941. He had worked in several short term jobs including shirt repairs for Standard Shirts for six months in 1941 and in a restaurant in 1942 for four months. He then worked as a Rough Carpenter 1942-1943 before enlisting on 22 October 1943. |
After training he was posted to Halifax and embarked from there for the U.K. on 11 July 1944 arriving at 3PRC (RCAF), on 19 July. He was then at 22 OTU on 17 October 1944. On 5 December 1944 on a non-operational day flight, Joseph and the other crew members were on a cross country exercise when they crashed near Okehampton in Devon (U.K.) It was a new aircraft having only done just over 24 hours flying and sadly all six of the crew lost their lives. On his death he had left everything to his grandmother, Rosa Pelchat, in Montreal. |

Reason for Loss | At 1024hrs aircraft took off for navigation exercise. At 1149hrs aircraft crashed while enveloped in cloud at Westacott Farm, Inwardleigh, 3 miles NNW of Oxenhampton, Devon. |
