Miscellaneous Information
Richard was born in Toronto on 11 October 1917. His father (deceased) was a Superintendant and was born in England, his mother was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. Richard had a sister Margaret. The schools he attended were Humbercrest Public and Runnymede Public 1922-1931 (Entrance) and then Humberside Collegiate Institute 1931-1936 (Junior Matric and part Senior). He then took a business course (night school), Western Commerce, 1936-1938.(bookkeeping and typing). His sport interests were hockey, skiing and golf and he enjoyed making model aircraft Richard worked as an office clerk for Blatchford Feeds Ltd. from 1936 until enlistment. He was also a Private in the Queen’s York Rangers during 1940-1941. |
He enlisted on 3 May 1941 and embarked from Canada for the U.K. on 1 June 1942. He arrived at 3 PRC on 13 June 1942 and then 10 (0) AFU, 6 July 1942 and 23 OTU on 11 August 1942 Richard sadly lost his life on 30 September 1942. |
