Miscellaneous Information
Robert was born on 16 April 1920 in Bassano, Alberta. His father was an engineer born in Wisconsin, U.S.A. and his mother, who was deceased by the time Robert enlisted, was born in Billings, Montana, USA. Although both parents were American citizens, Robert was Canadian. He had two sisters, and a brother who was in the Airforce in Edmonton. The schools he attended were Alexander School 1927-1935 and Western Canada High, 1935- 1939 (grades 9, 10 and 11). He was keen on hockey. Between July 1939-February 1940 Robert worked for J.J. Macintosh as a general labourer. He was also in the Canadian Field Force 10 July 1940-9 May 1941 where he worked as a clerk. |
Robert enlisted on 13 May 1941 and after training was sent to the U.K. where he arrived at 3 PRC on 13 May 1942. He was then at 16 OTU, 7 July 1942. |
