Miscellaneous Information
James was born on 1 December 1918 at Halifax Armadale, Nova Scotia. His father (who was deceased by the time of James's enlistment) was born in Greece and was in the hotel businesses whereas his mother was born at Amherst , Nova Scotia. He attended St. Patrick’s school, Oxford Street 1925-1935, and Sir Charles Tupper at Chebucto, Halifax. He then attended Bloomfield High, Halifax 1935-1937 followed by a Business Course 1937-1938. From 1938 onwards he worked at The Robert Simpson Company a department store in Toronto, where he was involved in bookkeeping, correspondence and in the audit department. James was involved in many sports including hockey, tennis, golf, basketball, baseball etc. |
He enlisted on 24 October 1940 and after training was posted to the U.K., embarking from Canada on 24 August 1941. He arrived at 3PRC on 2 September 1941 then to 16 OTU 23 September 1941 and 408 Squadron on 12 February 1942. Sadly, on 29 April 1942, James was to lose his life. |
