Miscellaneous Information
Allen was born at Toronto, Ontario on 15 August 1923. Both parents were born in Ontario. His father was a ship builder, born in Toronto and his mother was born in Kearney, Ontario. He had brothers Donald Kenneth and Paul Barlow and a sister Audrey Jeanetta. The schools he attended were Dewson Street Public School 1928-1935 (entrance), Bloor College 1940-1941 (Matric) and between 1936-1938 he had taken an Industrial Course at Central Tech. Allen took part in baseball, swimming, rugby and tennis and was a dedicated basketball player for his High School. He was also in the YMCA. He worked for the Dominion Bridge Company as an Annealer 1941-1942. |
Allen enlisted on 9 October 1942 and after his training was posted to England. He embarked from Canada on 1 November 1943, arriving at 3PRC in the U.K. on 10 November 1943. It was then on to 1 (0) AFU 29 February 1944, 82 OTU 11 April 1944, 11 Base 3 July 1944, 576 Squadon 31 August 1944 and 166 Squadron on 7 October 1944. Sadly Allen was to lose his life on 4 December 1944. |
